Well-Known 'Flying Vet' Visits Fly-In
"Larger-than-life" pilot Maurice Kirk of Great Britain has had numerous close calls.
After one in-air engine failure, some might give up flying.
Not Maurice Kirk, who said he has had 15 in-air engine failures during his 4 1/2 decades of flying.
Called "the Flying Vet," the 63-year-old veterinarian is well-known in flying circles in Great Britain and around the world.
"Infamous, perhaps notorious," said Nick Bloom, editor of Pilot magazine, Britain's best-selling general aviation magazine, when asked about Kirk's reputation in the aviation community.
"He's a larger-than-life character who seems to attract various kinds of trouble, but has my total respect as an aviator," Bloom said.
"He's a British good ol' boy," Bloom said.

About Maurice Kirk
Maurice was born 12th March1945, a war baby, in Taunton, Somerset, West of England, within a final family of four brothers and one sister while mother and father were working 24/7 to run a country veterinary practice. Country pursuits very much dominated his spare time from most sports with his passion still for hunting , shooting and fishing!
Maurice is currently trying to fly to South Africa in his WW2 Piper Cub,registration G-KURK. His other D-Day Cub, G-KERK, is destined, on skis, for a rather taller mountain after his promise to Sir Edmond, six years ago. Meanwhile, the task of obtaining justice in the UK courts, in order to practice veterinary surgery, is proving to be somewhat elusive.Authority has quite another agenda.
