I have just had a lovely steak, garlic and all the trimmings, in my local restaurant in Central Brittany only to overhear, on the TV in the main bar, both Presidents of America and France meeting at the 6th June 1944 D-Day landings near Caen, The razamataz, pomp and circumstance was, of course, at an American cemetery, President Johnson's response to Charles de Gaulle's demands still clearly ringing in my ears.

For one hour, I noticed, not one Frenchman bothered even to watch.

All I heard was how the Americans won the war ......single handed.

Putting aside Bush Senior and Junior, stemming the tide of Muslim dominance, for which the thinking World should be grateful and they are not, I was thoroughly disgusted with the absence and failed recognition of the allies who also laid down their lives. The yanks may have started a war recently but history records, generally, a different habit.

PS Prohibited airspace surrounding the spectacle meant the planned flight to a beach near Caen, to visit father's cousin's grave, was blocked to be adjourned for another sobering occasion.
